Padel Affordability – Membership, Court Fees & Value

There have been stories in the UK media that padel can be an expensive pursuit, but the truth is the cost of playing padel, while not totally insignificant, is competitive enough when compared to other racket sports and often more affordable than people expect. Many clubs, including those affiliated with UK PADEL, loan rackets and balls to beginners, so your initial investment is minimal.

UK PADEL clubs also offer starter memberships from £25 for two months, including three coaching sessions. We are happy to loan out four rackets for a charge of just £9 and a set of balls for £4.

Annual club memberships are one way to make a significant saving if you decide you want to take the plunge and make padel part of your life. Full membership of any UK PADEL club is £130 per year, and £65 for students or children, giving you 28-day advance booking at your main club.

They also unlock heavily discounted rates. For example, hiring a court for 90 minutes costs £54 for non-members, but just £38 for members. Given that the cost is effectively then split between four people, it is perhaps not as punishingly expensive as it is sometimes portrayed to be.

Peak times are daily between 5pm and 10pm, so to save money why not play in your lunch hour and return to work refreshed and ready to hit the rest of the day running!

Equipment costs are manageable: beginner rackets range from £50 to £100, while intermediate and advanced models fall between £150 and £300 depending on materials and tech features. So next time your other half asks what you want for Christmas, you finally have your answer!

Is Padel Worth the Investment?

Compared to gym memberships, tennis coaching, or boutique fitness classes, padel offers an unusually high return for your investment. The pure thrill of the sport – plus fitness and wellness benefits – are all part of the package, and you also have those special social connections to savour. With around 900 courts across 300 venues nationwide, and the number of those venues growing by about 50% every year, padel is becoming a big success story in the UK – but it is not financially out of reach by any means.

There are various factors at play, such as the potential scale of public and private investment, and supply gradually meeting demand, that suggest the relative cost of padel will come down once the market has matured in the UK.
