Oxshott Village Sports Club

Oxshott Village Sports Club is a very nice place indeed to get active.

While the Padel courts opened in August 2021, like a few padel clubs the members have cricket to thank originally with the first game of cricket recorded here in 1896. What’s more this is a very broad sports club, with 10 sports played and operated here at OVSC (as it is known). As well as tennis, squash and racketball there is the legendary game of

Stoolball, viewed as a forerunner to cricket and played for over 500 years in the UK. There’s more on Stoolball for you here https://www.stoolball.org.uk/

Back to Padel and the opportunities to play padel are frequent and wide ranging at Oxshott Padel Club. There’s something happening on the courts here every day of the week, players work through the class system ( a good class system) to help find the right level of play, as the coaching team control access to events for the benefit of the same level groups.

Possibly the strongest of the standards of the clubs in Surrey at this moment in time (October 2022), but also just as capable and inviting bringing new players into the game. As highlighted when we played there in August and there was a family with teenagers coming to the club for their first game of padel there.

Like at several clubs the courts have been tucked into less used space, but they have a good position in the mix of the club next to fantastic tennis courts, and ominously looming over the remaining coaching tennis club. These courts are regularly booked up, and Padel demand is likely to increase.

As regular visitors to the club for squash matches prior to the Padel courts opening, the club is full of legends – you may have seen Andy Murray here, Jeremy Bates, half of the estate agents in Surrey, including one of the clubs’ latest sponsors Churchods, and Jeff the bar manager.

Do say, when can I get back on these great courts to have another game? Don’t say, please can you put some netting up at the end of the court to stop my smashes ( ok 1 smash) going into the neighbouring public park.
