Just weeks after we saw Premier Padel’s record-breaking sell-out crowds at Olympia London, UK PADEL’s attention turns to a different kind of competition – one that showcases why padel continues to attract every age group and community in Britain.
From September 4-6 at Rocket Padel Bristol, more than 200 Over 60 players will compete for county glory in the first event of the newly revamped Padel County Cup, a partnership between UK PADEL and the LTA. Men’s, Women’s and Mixed teams from right across Britain – all the way from East Scotland to Cornwall – will bring the same intensity and rivalry that made last year’s competition such a success.
The Over 60s competition has already become one of the most anticipated events in the British padel calendar. Last year brought together 200 players across 54 teams representing 22 counties. This year sees further growth, with defending champions Yorkshire (Men’s), East Scotland (Women’s) and Surrey (Mixed) all returning to defend their titles.
What makes this event special is that while there is a serious, competitive edge, it’s also a celebration of community spirit with a big dollop of fun thrown in. From past experience, we’ve seen how people really love representing where they’re from, and the Over 60 competition showcases this perfectly.
“There is something wonderful about beginning the new Padel County Cup with our Over 60 players,” says Neil Percival, COO of UK PADEL. “They are representing their counties, they are competitive and they desperately want to win, but alongside that you see friendships, laughter and an incredible community.”
Lateral: Sponsoring the Rally of the Tournament
It’s a combination that has attracted Lateral as a new partner for the Over 60 competition. Lateral champions health and wealth products for active people over 60 with “no intention of stopping,” reflecting perfectly the spirit of this tournament.
Lateral will be sponsoring the Lateral Rally of the Tournament with each player involved in the most exciting rally taking home a £50 voucher to spend at more than 100 retailers.
Visit the Lateral stand in Bristol to hear more about what the company does for over-60s. While you’re there, you can pick up some free padel merchandise, and you’ll also be invited to enter a prize draw to win a Lateral health check, in partnership with Bluecrest Wellness, worth £362.
We’ve invited select members of the media to Rocket Padel between 1pm and 3pm on any of the three days of the tournament. Rather than simply watching, journalists, broadcasters and content creators can experience padel first hand, interview players and county captains, and interview Neil and Event Director Mark Ayers. Rackets and equipment will be provided.
UK PADEL will also showcase its latest digital scoreboard system and enhanced Nothing But Padel live production with in-game analysis and storytelling designed to make the sport accessible to new audiences.
If you fancy yourself as a co-commentator, we’re also looking for enthusiastic voices to help bring the event to life next weekend, ideally based relatively close to Bristol. Does it sound like your thing? If so, email neil@ukpadel.org
Event partners: LTA Padel, Lateral, HEXA Padel, Lauralu UK & Ireland, HEAD, Shandy Shack
