The UK PADEL County Championship Series continues to go from strength to strength, driving participation, elevating standards, and uniting players across generations in one of the fastest growing sports in the country.
21-22nd June, The UK PADEL Over 40 County Championships delivered another weekend of outstanding padel action at Rocket Padel in Bristol. Saturday evening’s Mixed Final saw drama unfold as Yorkshire edged out Essex in a Championship shootout,
The mixed competition was the strongest to date in the UK PADEL County Championship series, the semi-finals saw two titans of county padel Yorkshire and the Channel Islands go to toe and needed yet another championship tie break to separate them and see Yorkshire into the final and the chance to defend their title against Essex.
Which they took, but once again as the players party rolled into action, another champs tie break was needed. This format where at 1-1 all in a team match, one player from each pair combines in an extended penalty shoot-out is tense and completely gripping. Yorkshire kept their composure seeing out the championship with a convincing tie break victory 10-4 to defend their UK PADEL County championship over 40 Mixed title which you can see the winning moments of here

On Sunday attention turned to the Women’s and Men’s events. Surrey and Sussex fell at the semi-final hurdle in the Women’s event. Sussex could not have pushed Essex any harder, taking it to a Championship shoot out and but eventually falling to Yorkshire 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 in the tie break. And you can see that thriller here
The Men’s Final produced another standout encounter, with Surrey emerging victorious against Yorkshire in a fiercely contested match. Surrey secured a 2-0 victory in straight sets, showcasing both the high skill level and competitive spirit that have become hallmarks of the series. You can see the sensational shot making from the Surrey team to just keep ahead of Yorkshire, as Craig De Silva put in the hard years and then Gareth Nicol finished off with the fizzing winner to take the second set tie break in the second match 8-6 and win 6-4, 7-6 against John Dunseath and Michael Tolman, alongside the empathic 6-1, 6-2 win for Ali Anderson and Kirk Jackson against Ben Gudzelak and Thomas Sanders in the second pair.
The event would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors helping UK PADEL to lift up Padel in the UK. Our thanks go out to ACT SPORTS, HEXA PADEL, LAURALU UK, HEAD PADEL — who supplied the excellent Pro S balls — PUNCHY for keeping players hydrated, and SHANDY SHACK for once again helping to kickstart the players’ party atmosphere with their fantastic drinks.
“The UK PADEL County Championship Series is playing a role in the growth and development of padel across the country,” said Mark Ayers, UK PADEL Tournament Director. “Bringing players together to compete for their counties adds a unique team element that’s second to none — the camaraderie, passion, and pride on display set it apart from other competitions in the UK.”
“We are seeing new counties getting involved, standards rising event on event, and a real community of players who are helping to elevate the sport to new heights. My heartfelt thanks go to all the players, captains and counties for their continued support. Their enthusiasm is what drives these events and the wider growth of padel across the UK.”
Looking ahead, Ayers highlighted the exciting growth of the County Championship Series:
“We’re thrilled to be expanding the series even further this year,” said Mark Ayers. “In September, we’ll again host the Over 60 County Championships (6–7 September), offering a fantastic opportunity for our senior players to compete at a high level and continue building the team spirit that defines these events.”
“Even more exciting is the launch of the first-ever Junior County Championships on 29–30 November. This is a groundbreaking step in developing the next generation of UK padel players and giving young talent the chance to represent their counties on a national stage.”
