The UK Padel Over 60 County Championships brought together players from across the country for another weekend of top class team competition
Hosted at Rocket Padel Bristol and with just short of 200 players competing for 54 teams representing 22 counties across men’s women’s and Mixed competitions. The event showcased not only the high level of play but also the joy and togetherness that padel brings to every generation. Age is just a number and that number was 60 this weekend!
Men’s Championship – Yorkshire Take the Crown
The men’s competition saw Yorkshire emerge as the champions. Their first pair were ruthless throughout the event, dropping the fewest games of any pair in the competition and you can see Nick Hollaway skilfully guiding his team to bring home the championships in a yet another shoot out win against East Scotland on our YouTube Channel here
Women’s Championship – East Scotland Triumph in a Thriller
In a championship shoot-out that will live long in the memory, East Scotland edged out Surrey in a nail-biting final. Both teams delivered incredible performances, but East Scotland’s resilience and precision under pressure secured them the title in front of a lively crowd.
There were endless thrilling matches including a classic in the semi finals which of course went all the way to a shoot out between East Scotland and Yorkshire.
Mixed Championship – Surrey Shine
A real highlight of the County Championships series has been the mixed events which aren’t usually played at this scale or level in padel at other events in the UK. Surrey took advantage of the momentum they gained early and with some fine performances from the likes of Colin Sherma and Andrea Hunt managed to take down a very strong Yorkshire side in the Semi Finals and the mighty East Scotland in yet another championships tie break in the final – which you can relive here
Mark Ayers, Director of Events for UK PADEL who has masterminded the extended series was thrilled with how the Championships played out
“The power of events like these lies in their ability to bring people together around a shared passion. It’s long been clear that the over 60 age group is crying out for more opportunities to compete. The standard of play and the joy we’ve seen this weekend proves that padel at this level and this age group is thriving. That’s why we’re so excited to be extending this category into our new upcoming Masters Series — giving players even more chances to compete, stay active, and enjoy the incredible social side of our sport. Well done to all the counties who have competed this weekend”
